Should Elementary Schools Continue to Teach Cursive Writing? By William David-Tremblay

Teachers these days mostly teach kids how to read and write in cursive writing. They also say that kids later on will have to use cursive writing in high school. But people in high school said that they never really used cursive writing before in their high school classes. So, should teachers still teach cursive at elementary schools? I will talk about 3 things why teachers should stop teaching cursive; they are: Teachers say that we will use cursive writing a lot in high school but we never do use it, We don't have to write in cursive but teachers could teach them how to read it, Schools should stop teaching cursive.

Firstly, Teachers say we will use cursive writing a lot in high school but we never do. This is shown by the people who wrote in comment on this article that they had never used cursive writing in their high school classes. I also agree with them because I'm in high school and I have never used cursive or the teachers haven't used it either. They mostly teach us with their smart board so they write with the computer and we usually get the notes printed out for us. Also, if we write people mostly write in block letters and not in cursive. 

Secondly, we don't need to learn how to write in cursive but teachers could teach use how to read cursive. People have said that they only know how to write their name in cursive. They also say that they have trouble reading in cursive. I think that, that is true because I can only write a few things in cursive but I have troubles reading in cursive. I think that teachers should teach kids how to read it and teach them they alphabet in cursive. This is because they will be able to learn on their own if they even wish to learn it. But teachers should not oblige cursive writing because we don't us it in our daily lives. 

Lastly, schools should stop teaching cursive to kids. This is because if kids learn how to write cursive they will forget how to write it because they will stop using it anyway. They will ask their selves that they could of learned something more important that will be used more in life than learning cursive writing. They will think that it was a lost of education.

In conclusion, should teachers still continue to teach cursive writing in elementary schools? Do you think that if teachers continue teaching cursive writing to kids; they will keep using it in high school? Teachers say that we will have to learn cursive writing because in high school we will use it through out our high school years. But no, people have said that through out their high schools years they have used their normal writing. Also, people have said that they only use cursive to write their names. So, should teachers still teach kids cursive???
