What is cursive? By Thomas Blackburn

Do people even know what cursive is these days? Exactly. Cursive writing shouldn't be taught in elementary schools anymore. This method of writing is taught in elementary school around grade 3 but nowadays school are wondering if it is still worth teaching because of the evolution of technology. For the reasons that it waste precious learning time and also because of how it might be difficult to read for the reasons that people don't all write cursive the same way. Cursive isn't even still use anymore! So why learn it?

Firstly, learning cursive writing wastes precious learning time that could be use for more important subjects. These days, many people have difficulty with their english or math maybe because when they were younger they didn't have the proper amount of time learning the basics. Honestly, I would have rather had time to learn my provinces then waste time on a writing I'll never use in my life. How long do you think it takes to master cursive? 1 week? 2 weeks? 1 month? I remember spending 3 months of every single English class learning and practicing. Imagine how much more reading or writing you could've done to help you have a richer grammar and vocabulary. Even now, 3 months might not be enough for some people.

Second of all, everybody has a different cursive writing. The fact that people write cursive in different ways might make it very hard to understand. Have you ever seen a doctor's cursive? Nobody can read that! Also, for many people who don't write very well and a very sloppy writing it might be a problem. For example, in my case I don't have the prettiest writing and it makes my cursive look horrible. Think about it, if cursive would be so common wouldn't people use it more often?

To conclude, cursive writing shouldn't be thaught in elementary schools anymore. One reason is for how learning cursive writing wastes precious time learning other more important educational stuff. Also, with the many different ways cursive can be written, it might make it more difficult to understand. Think about your last year, how many times have you used cursive?
