Is Cursive Writing Necessary? By William Tuppert

Hi, my name is William...
Hi, my name is William...

Which one is easier to read? Cursive writing shouldn't be taught in any primary schools. Cursive writing also known as joined-up writing or running writing is letters joined up in
order to make writing  easier and faster and a word one single complex stroke. It shouldn't be used because it is a waste of time, people have a different type of cursive which makes it hard to understand and cursive is slowly disappearing.

To begin with, teaching Math, French, English is more important than cursive writing. This is why It is a waste of time. Students often struggle and take time to adopt the flow. This wasted time should be used to teach other subjects such as Math, English and French. It took my class in 6th grade 1 year to learn cursive writing and some still couldn't write properly. Putting into account that I learned cursive writing 3 years ago, today I have difficulty writing properly and remembering each letter in cursive. Unfortunately, this isn't only me that has this problem so if more and more kids forget how to write it than why are we teaching it?

Secondly, everybody learned cursive differently which makes the writing differnet for everyone. So what if someone misunderstands a word this could create a conflict with the letter sent by anybody. What if I receive a letter from anybody writtin in cursive and the writting isn't clear what am I supposed to do? What if the letter was important but In can't read it? Everything should be writtin or asked to be writtin in simple letters because some people won't be able to write properly or will struggle. Simple letters is simple clean, and neat. Pretty much is able to write and read it.

Lastely, cursive writing is rarely seen. Newpapers, do not use cursive writing because simple letters is familiar for everyone. Students who have school workbooks, textbooks, are all using simple letters. since it is rarely used, primary schools should not teach cursive writing, Facebook, television, media in general is not using cursive writting because it's slowly disapearing. If it's slowly disapearing then what is the utility of learning it? The media is everywhere so people are used to see simple letters ans kids are exposed to media everyday and no cursive writing is seen.

In conclusion, cursive writing should not be taught in primary schools. It is a waste of time, people have different ways to write which makes it hard to read and it is gradually disapearing. Now look around do you see any cursive writing? That's right, than why are we teaching we teaching them how to write it?

Should We Learn It, Or Should We Not? By Sara Kempf

Modern Technology VS. Handwritten Cursive
I have been writing in print for over 9 years and I haven't had one problem with it. Why would we need to learn a fancy handwriting? It's only more work. The importance of writing is not how fancy it is, it's how neat and understandable it is.

When it comes to teachers asking us to write a complete essay in cursive, typed or handwritten, I'm pretty sure the students have tendency to type it with a fancy-crooked font. It's very rare that we will see a student actually write his or her essay in cursive handwriting. Writing instead of typing is just so much work for nothing. So why complicate your life even more? You shouldn't even 'write' an essay, it should be typed, black on white. Next time you know what you should do: Type it- it's way easier.

If you can read and write, you can do anything with the letters and create new words. I think this is why the majority of elementary schools stopped teaching cursive writing. I know this because when I was in elementary school we used to practice cursive but after a while the teacher just stopped giving us the lesson. We would be writing and reading instead. Later on, you're going to be writing with a neat handwriting print, I guarantee you. The more you get the hang of writing, your hand will be making twirls in between letters, and the next thing you know you're writing in cursive without learning how. You don't have to learn it to do it. It will directly come to you, naturally.

What do cursive help you do? Write better? No, I don't think so. It's an extra handwriting that we don't have to learn how to write it. Sure thing, in 20 years from now, we might write in cursive, since we'll be getting older our writing and vocabulary will evolve. Although computers will always be there and it will evolve too.

So what would you do if you saw a pen and paper on the right, and a computer on the left with a blank page and a fancy font waiting for you? I'm 100% you will be choosing the left side since you won't get cramps in your hands for writing for hours in cursive, don't you? Like people say: Choose the easy way!

What is cursive? By Thomas Blackburn

Do people even know what cursive is these days? Exactly. Cursive writing shouldn't be taught in elementary schools anymore. This method of writing is taught in elementary school around grade 3 but nowadays school are wondering if it is still worth teaching because of the evolution of technology. For the reasons that it waste precious learning time and also because of how it might be difficult to read for the reasons that people don't all write cursive the same way. Cursive isn't even still use anymore! So why learn it?

Firstly, learning cursive writing wastes precious learning time that could be use for more important subjects. These days, many people have difficulty with their english or math maybe because when they were younger they didn't have the proper amount of time learning the basics. Honestly, I would have rather had time to learn my provinces then waste time on a writing I'll never use in my life. How long do you think it takes to master cursive? 1 week? 2 weeks? 1 month? I remember spending 3 months of every single English class learning and practicing. Imagine how much more reading or writing you could've done to help you have a richer grammar and vocabulary. Even now, 3 months might not be enough for some people.

Second of all, everybody has a different cursive writing. The fact that people write cursive in different ways might make it very hard to understand. Have you ever seen a doctor's cursive? Nobody can read that! Also, for many people who don't write very well and a very sloppy writing it might be a problem. For example, in my case I don't have the prettiest writing and it makes my cursive look horrible. Think about it, if cursive would be so common wouldn't people use it more often?

To conclude, cursive writing shouldn't be thaught in elementary schools anymore. One reason is for how learning cursive writing wastes precious time learning other more important educational stuff. Also, with the many different ways cursive can be written, it might make it more difficult to understand. Think about your last year, how many times have you used cursive?

Homework, Why or Why Not by Zachary Giguere

Teachers keep telling us: "Homework is the best thing to help you learn it will also help us get better" (imagine me saying this like a teacher) but does it really help us learn better, faster or even at all. Homework usually doesn't help me learn. Not because I'm a teenager and if I like homework I'm a nerd! But because most of the time homework I do isn't really relevant to the work I do in class and sometimes isn't even what's going to be on the test. Secondly if we are doing the homework wrong we are not learning just practicing doing homework badly.

Firstly it often happens that the homework I do isn't even relevant to what we have in our tests. So you could be learning one thing in class and something completely different on the homework. Then the test comes around the corner you study your homework and BOOM you fail, because the test was about what you had in your notes. My history class is like that. But don't get me wrong I like my history class and my teacher but the homework isn't what is on our test, we are just doing homework for the sake of it. So homework doesn't help s learn in this case at all.

Secondly, what if I'm at home and I'm doing the old homework due the next day but I'm doing the homework wrong. If you do your homework wrong you also get the question wrong on the test. Now you can't tell me that by doing my homework wrong I am getting better in my opinion I'm getting worse. I know this happens because it happened to me I did my homework wrong but didn't know I was doing it wrong and I almost failed my test which sucks believe me, maybe some people don't care about getting good grades but I do. So if you're doing your homework wrong you are definitely not learning or getting better.

In conclusion, we could be doing pointless homework or doing your homework wrong for all I know. In the end homework instead always as good as most teachers claim It is. So i ask you this question fare reader's of this blog, if there is anyone reading this blog apart from my teacher to grade It, does homework really help us learn.
