Little White Lies by Lydia Lelievre

We are all liars. Saying we aren't would be lying, making us automatically liars. But it also depends on the way you define lying. Some people will define  lying  as being a position that you take when you sleep. Those who have that as their definition ought to redefine it. The lying I'm talking about is the little white lies defined as not telling the truth to your wife, about taking a few beers or the one you tell your mom when you're "studying" at a friend's, when you're actually shopping. I say that those lies can be justified since they were, first of all, taught to us at a very young age. Then, they can't get us out of trouble. Those little white lies are more common than you think in our everyday life. Everyone lies. Those who "don't" are either dead, fake or non-existent.

We are taught to lie at a very young age. Some experts even say as early as the age of three. Why is that? The answer is simple. We saw mommy and daddy do the same! They lie, we do, too! Kids learn by seeing and hearing stuff. It's like kids who swear. They probably learned it from their parents or friends. So, they do the same. This can be justified since they, as in children, are like little sponges; they absorb every little thing like lies. We can't do anything about it. We can't stop lying either. Lying is in the human nature.
The next thing about lying is that it saves us from trouble. No one lies for no reason. We lie to prevent something to happen. For example, a child won't tell his parents that he ate the last cookie since he knows that they'll get mad. So, if you can see the reason, you should understand why the child lies. That child doesn't want his parents to get mad. But, the reason people lie is because they often don't want to hurt another person's feeling or end up getting hurt. Usually, I say this by experience, when a girl says to another girl she never spoke to "I like your shirt" she actually means "Eww, what a hideous shirt! If I ever see it again, I'm going to puke!" Unless she really means it. But seriously, girls are too difficult. So, lying can be justified since it prevents people from hurting each other and getting into trouble. Little white lies are a kind of natural defense mechanism. Just like white blood cells, they protect an individual from viruses. But in our case, the virus would be emotional and psychological.

Lastly, let's not hide it, everyone has already lied. Lying can be seen everyday. For example,
when I say something mean to my sister and my mom tells me to say sorry, I do it, but I don't mean it. Seriously, who does? It's my sister! She deserved it! Anyway, Lying is common, especially at the end of a school year for teens. You know, when the bell rings announcing summer and everyone cries and says "I'll miss you!" or "Miss, next year, it'll be so sad without you!"? Well, no one means that. Everyone is just like: "Hell yeah! It's summer! I'm going to Hawaii, sucker!" and "Seriously, that teacher was a pain in the butt! I'm so glad the year is over" or "I can't wait not to see her fugly face". Lying is seen everyday in our schools, buses, work, home--- everywhere. When you climb in a city bus and the driver says "hi",  he  doesn't really care. All he wants is for his day to be over. Or, teachers who say that we're their favorite group. They're lying! They totally hate us! They simply say that because they know that we're wild animals and they want to keep us calm. So, again, lying can be justified since everyone does it, even your parents, teachers and friends; only little white lies. They just diffuse the tension. They're just a way to be polite. They're just little white lies.

In conclusion, why not? Everyone lies for a reason. Little white lies can be justified since they were taught to kids when they were very young. Also, they can help you get out of a mess. Lastly, they are everywhere. White lies don't harm anyone. They are protecting an individual from getting hurt. So, how about "studying" tonight? Seriously, I'd love to learn about the Female Reproductive System! By the way, it's Friday.
