Will They Ever be Satisfied- Kim Gendron

Will They Ever be Satisfied
In average, a hockey player earns 2.4 million dollars per year and actors get multi-million dollar contracts yet, people risking their lives for our freedom earn barely enough to make a living. Ten million, twenty million, thirty million dollars directly into the pockets of athletes and actors. These professionals are tremendously overpaid! First of all, they don’t even work a fraction as much as others.
Second of all, the money should be invested into more important things and lastly, they are never

satisfied with what they earn.

Athletes and actors are simply entertainers who work in average 12-23 hours per week. As Bob Dogman said, why should a person who is good at kicking a ball or creating dramatic scenes make more money in a week than a middle class worker in several months? Actors and athletes make more money than the person running your county! It is outrageous to think that someone who only provides entertainment every few days earns so much money. Take for example hockey players, they play in average 2 games per week and earns 5-20 million dollars per year compared to a doctor who works at least 10 hours per day and earns around 500,000$ annually. It is unfair that someone who provides entertainment earns more than someone who has studied for many years to save lives.

Second of all, the money that is given to these professionals should be invested into more necessary things such as medical studies and housing for the homeless. People all around the world live unemployed, unsheltered and have no money to get food. The money should be invested into these poor regions to create safe living environments for people who live in the area. In addition, money could be spent on scientific research to find the cures to many diseases. Moreover, we should help people in need and create jobs for them. Instead of making the rich richer and leaving the poor poor, we should balance things out to create acceptable living conditions for all.
Lastly, whether it be actors or athletes, they all argue about the same basic thing, money. With players constantly demanding for bonuses and higher salaries, it makes you wonder if they re worth the money (John Mueller). Last year, the NHL season was pushed back because many owners and general managers refused to increase their player’s salaries. On the contrary, their salaries were cut by about 20% brewing up conflict. We live in such a selfish and greedy society, these people already earn several millions while some people don’t even have enough to eat three meals. Chris Hemsworth who played the role of Thor  in the movie Avengers 2 reportedly told Marvel that he will not show up for what they’ve offered him so far, as he was paid 5 million dollars for the movie Snow White and the Huntsman he’s unwilling  to take pay cut for a movie expected to make at least 1.5 billion dollars. This goes to show how greedy and ungrateful people are today.

In conclusion, actors and athletes are tremendously overpaid. First of all, they only work a fraction of the hours a middle class person does. Second of all, the money should be invested into more important things and lastly, these individuals are never satisfied with what they earn. It is ridiculous to get paid several million dollars to do something as simple as playing a game.
