"How Fencing Works" by Jacob Dupuis

Many people believe that fencing is just a sport about hitting each other with swords, but in reality, it is much more complicated than that. First of all, there are three diferent kinds of fencing :Sabre, foil and epee. Sabre is the quickest one, in which you can hit with the blade and the point. You can hit anywhere above the waist except for the hand. The second kind is foil, in which you can only point. You can hit only a person chest. The final type is epee, in which you can only use the point, but there are no limitations on where you can hit. This is the type in which matches take the longest. Foil and sabre have a system in which the fencers can get advantages depending on what they do, for example: parrying (blocking) gives you the advantage, so if both fencers hit each other at the same time after, the one who parried gets the point. Epee fencing does not have this system so it is more of a game of hit without being hit, or BOTH peole get points. I hope this gave you insight on some of the rules of fencing.
